Sierra Leone - Diamond Mines

Sierra Leone - Diamond Mines

:: released 31. 12. 2007 ::
How can look like a search for a mineral called diamond, not much different from other stones..? Wasn't it for one clever company, which buys out 90% of all diamonds found on the world and then lets only few of them out of their safe-deposits to sellers, controlling the supply and therefore the price of this mineral.. People work in conditions reminding of modern slavery to get one food daily and a percent of the price which it sells in Europe or elsewhere. If you are up to buy a diamond, try to take a look at this photographs first, maybe you will re-think your purchase..

Sierra Leone - Diamond Mines In Color

Sierra Leone - Diamond Mines In Color

:: released 24. 12. 2007 ::
These are photos in color from Kono district in Sierra Leone. It is the third world largest source of diamonds and I was lucky enough to visit the biggest mine in the region at that time. Over 300 miners were working in the mine, which reminded me of a huge meteorite hole.

Sierra Leone - People And Nature

Sierra Leone - People And Nature

:: released 11. 12. 2007 ::
Five years after the end of bloody civil war, the people look like changed and one would not believe most of them were actually fighting and killing. Friendly and peaceful, yet struggling to survive every day. Having an university degree does not help to find a job, there is simply no jobs. And all that is happening by the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen in my life.

Sierra Leone - Amputee Football Team

Sierra Leone - Amputee Football Team

:: released 24. 11. 2007 ::
It was amazing to see how the Amputee team trains, how superbly they actually manage to play football even though they lost one of their legs. These are the victims of civil war in Sierra Leone - usually the right limb was amputeed, since it is much ore difficult to balance on left leg, like it is more difficult to write with left hand for most of us. They were full of tears asking the rebels to cut their left leg, but unfortunately it did not work out every time. The horror of the civil war is now over and one can see on the faces that they really enjoy the game and give everything for the team. The best Amputee Football Team in Africa.

Sweden - West coast

Sweden - West coast

:: released 14. 08. 2007 ::
On my sailtrip with RedMan I've sailed through the west coast of Sweden. Narrow channels and lots of rock formings reminded me of the coast I saw when visiting Croatia, just the rocks were different color and water was not so clear. A fantastic place colorful fishing villages.

Denmark - Skagen

Denmark - Skagen

:: released 14. 08. 2007 ::
While sailing Skagerak and Kattegat seas, we have called on a small but lively port of Skagen. I've rented a bicycle and set off for a ride. The landscape was unbelievable. This northern tip of Denmark if formed by sand and is still moving in north direction. Couple of kilometers from Skagen city is Råbjerg Mile, a sand dune, moving some 15 meters every year and I've spent lots of time browsing through the white sand and relaxing. Wonderful experience.
