Diamond Mines In Color

Kono district in the east of Sierra Leone is the third largest exporter of diamonds. In the Koidu city, mines can be seen everywhere. After spending few days in minor mines, I got the opportunity to visit the biggest mine of its kind. Over 300 people were working there, usually for one food daily. The conditions were reminding me of modern slavery. But since there is no work in post-war Sierra Leone, people do not have other choice if they do not want to starve.
