Siberut island
Siberut is the largest and northernmost of the Mentawai Islands, lying 150 Kilometres west of Sumatra in the Indian Ocean. A part of Indonesia, the island is the most important home for the indigenous Mentawai people. Much of the island is covered with rainforest, but unfortunatelly is subject to commercial logging. The Mentawai people were once head hunters. They live a semi-nomadic hunter - gatherer lifestyle in the coastal and rainforest environments of the islands. Their culture is well preserved and it feels like traveling to stone age.
